It's really difficult to choose a small number of "favorite destinations' in Costa Rica tourism because there are so many wonderful places to visit-it sometimes seems that Costa Rica attractions are endless. Your vacation will surely be different than any other Costa Rica tour before you!

Still, we know there are some destinations that are visited more often and become visitors' favorites (and they are favorites of ours, too). We list some of these below with a brief introduction, and if you want more information, click on the related link for a detail page.

If you want to get off the beaten track, call Costa Rica Connections at 1-800-345-7422 toll free to get us working on designing a custom Costa Rica tour just for you. We spend so much time traveling through our country that we discover new things about it, and we are pleased to pass along our knowledge to you.

Some favorite Costa Rican attractions or destinations:

Tortuguero National Park: This small area in the northeast corner of the country is the perfect destination for ecotourism in Costa Rica. A little remote, sparsely populated, lush. This is one of the few places you may actually get to view sea turtles, a protected but diminishing part of life.

Arenal Volcano: A popular destination for many reasons. The mountain is alive and dominates the local scene. Yet the town of La Fortuna and the surrounding areas have many other attractions to put into your Costa Rica tour.

Monteverde Cloud Forest: A true cloud forest where the clouds passing through the forest leave nourishing moisture for an amazing array of plants and animals. Adjacent to the charming town of Monteverde, be sure to enjoy a hike through the forest floor or the canopy sometime during your Costa Rica trip.

Guanacaste: A sun drenched province, Guanacaste is easily accessible either by highway from San Jose or by air directly into the new airport at Liberia. Endless pure sand beaches and clean warm water beckon-pick a delightful Costa Rica beach hotel and kick back.

Puerto Viejo de Limon: Step back in Costa Rican history in Puerto Viejo de Limon to the building of the first railroad from the interior Central Valley to the coast. This project triggered the growth of the country's two largest agricultural exports, bananas and coffee. Today, it remains a bustling port and its diversity of cultures, language, and peoples creates a unique and special part of modern Costa Rica.

Carara National Park: Close to San Jose and on the Pan American highway, but absolutely natural in so many ways, Carara is on the Costa Rica nature tour of your dreams. If you have never seen the scarlet macaws in nature, this is your chance, and it's worth the trip! 11,000 acres with the most diverse bird population in Costa Rica-this is a must see for any Costa Rica birding vacation.

Tiskita Jungle Lodge: Drive or fly, the trip to Tiskita Jungle Lodge is worth the effort. A Costa Rica ecotourism gem, the Lodge is unlike any other place, perched on a hill overlooking the Pacific. Surrounded by rainforest with populations of rare squirrel monkeys and over 270 recorded species of birds, plus local populations of sea turtles, this is part of lucky travelers' Costa Rica nature tours.

Corcovado National Park: Sometimes Corcovado is called the "last frontier' of Costa Rica. Its 135,000 acres contains what may be the richest ecosystm on earth, a good reason for ecotourism in Costa Rica all by itself. This remote special park is best enjoyed in the company of an experienced guide.

Manuel Antonio National Park: Manuel Antonio combines the spectacular ocean-to-jungle environment of southwest Costa Rica with the comforts of high quality hotels and the services of the town of Quepos. Add it to your Costa Rica tour as a place to relax surrounded by natural beauty.
