Enjoy a 90 minutes drive to Birris, in the Province of Cartago, to the starting point at Jasec (Cartago’s local power supplier). After a short briefing (demonstration on gear shifting and testing of the brakes) and bicycle safety talk, begin cycling to the Ruins of the Ujarras Church, passing through the village of Santiago and stopping at a local farm en route. Enjoy a snack at the Ruins of the Ujarras Church and after a short break continue on to the hydroelectric plant of Cachi and the town of Tucurrique, where you will have lunch with a local costarrican family, and eat the real “tico” cuisine. After an orientation and safety talk proceed down the river. Along the tropical river course, lays densely vegetated gorges which shelter monkeys, sloths, and an incredible variety of birds. Also found within these gorges is some of the best white water in the world. Mid-afternoon arrival at a private camp with time to relax and enjoy a rainforest hike or swim in the river falls (B.L.D) Day 3-4 1 nights accommodation at the River Camp Day 4 After breakfast and local hikes proceed down river for a thrilling day of whitewater rafting. Have lunch along the way after paddling down river through lush forest with amazing flora & fauna. Day 6 This morning after breakfast, you will be shuttled by boat about 25 miles towards the Colorado River, passing through Penitencia Canal until you arrive at Samay Laguna. Here you board the kayaks to paddle in beautiful clean water in total solitude, to the magical entrance of Laguna Nueve. A brief visit to the beach will be one of the day’s highlights. Return to Mawamba Lodge for lunch. Upon your arrival in San José, transfer for Domestic flight to Quepos.
