Sylvia and I just got back from a fabulous trip to Costa Rica, which could not have been nearly as wonderful if it had not been for you and your team at Costa Rica Connections and Sun Tours. (P. Lichtenstein

The Southwest Pacific Lowlands begin near Jacó and continue south to Panama along the coast and west to the mountain foothills. A Costa Rica vacation to this region will offer the full range of Costa Rica attractions within a short distance:  combine your ideas for a Costa Rica nature tour with a good old relaxing beach vacation--it's all close by.

Rainforests, Orchards, Ocean Beaches

These warm and humid lowlands were once covered by rainforests similar to their counterparts in the Caribbean lowlands, however much of the region has been cleared for agriculture during the last half century. Bananas, African oil palms and beef cattle pasture now dominate the landscape.

Fortunately large tracts of rainforest are protected in Corcovado National Park, which encompasses nearly 135,000 acres. The rocky coastline and rough ocean surf at the edge of the park, give a truly wilderness appearance to this park. Yet visitors are attracted to this area because it is one of the most biologically diverse regions on earth. Here all four of Costa Rica's monkey species can be found together, including the very rare Central American Squirrel Monkey, and Costa Rica's largest population of wild scarlet macaws fly free here. The park also has white-lipped peccaries, Baird's tapirs and very shy jaguars!

Another tract of Costa Rica's south pacific lowland rainforest can be visited at the private reserve of Tiskita Jungle Lodge. Manual Antonio National Park near the town of Quepos, contains a small tract of forest, but is best known for its beautiful beaches and abundant wildlife.
