As a prime example of ecotourism in Costa Rica, there are no roads to Casa Corcovado Jungle Lodge--access is only by motor launch. The adventure begins upon your arrival at "La Hacienda" the reception center, in the town of Sierpe. Board a boat, where you embark on a one and a half hour ride down the Sierpe River, winding through the largest mangrove wetlands system on the Pacific Coast of Central America. Then follow the coast south until arriving at the lodge with a wet water landing. The artfully-appointed individual bungalows offer unpretentious comfort, mosquito-netted beds, ceiling fan, tiled floors, lounge area, dry mini bar, safety deposit box, hammock, ample closets and 24 hour electricity which is provided by hydro-electric and solar systems. Enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean from the hilltop facilities which are exposed to cooling sea breezes. The coastal location facilitates easy travel to such extraordinary places as Isla del Caño, a coral reef-fringed, forested biological reserve just eleven miles west of Marenco, and to the largest and most beautiful stand of mangroves, those of the delta region of the Sierpe and Terraba Rivers. The lodge was built in harmony with the surrounding rain forest and beach environment. All rooms include a private balcony and are fully screened. There are two ways of getting to the lodge, both of them include flights from San José, and a boat ride to the lodge. One way is a flight to Palmar Sur, from there, a taxi to the town of Sierpe, then a boat to the lodge. This ride along the Sierpe River and through the incredible mangroves lasts an hour and a half. The other way in is a flight to Drake's Bay, and a 4WD taxi to Playa Agujitas, then a 10 minute boat ride to the lodge.
